You Know, Just Casual

shirt: TJ Maxx; shorts: Cotton On; shoes: Aldo

Today was another one of those stay at home days. I know it's kind of lame that I spend my days on a couch, but I've been savoring these past few days that I've spent sitting on the Internet. Why? Because I start school in a few days. It's bittersweet. It's about time I stopped spending everyday eating snacks and watching YouTube anyway. BUT, hopefully, when school starts I'll start dressing better. Fun fact, I tend to overdress for school-- especially when the weather cools. For now, though, you get me in a button down shirt and loose shorts.

Emmys 2014 Stand Out Red Carpet Looks

I generally don't watch award shows, but I love looking through the red carpet looks on the internet the next day. Because I was looking through the pictures anyway, I thought I'd do a little post about the looks that stood out to me.

Allison Williams in Giambattista Valli
I really love this dress because of the unique top and the classic princess style skirt, but I don't like how it looks on her. Her head just looks so tiny! If she had her hair down in curls (or any hairstyle with volume), this would have looked much nicer.

Amy Poehler in Theia
Completely sequinned or metallic dresses have always been weird in my opinion. They always seem like they're supposed to be some sort of unflattering futuristic costume. This particular dress seems extra unflattering because of the direction of the stitching, especially around the hips. Her hips look like they go down to her thighs, if that makes sense. I love her hair though. The waves are so relaxed and natural, and I can see that she intended her hair to contrast the extravagance of her dress.

Cat Deeley in Burberry
This is so pretty! The deep v-neck and the clean straps are so elegant, and the mauve-blush ombre matches her skin tone really well. And her updo (what I can see of it anyway) suits the vibe of her look.

Hayden Panettiere in Lorena Sarbu
As I mentioned a few scrolls up, metallic/sequinned dresses tend to be unflattering in my opinion. I just feel like there were so many better ways that she could have shown off her little baby bump. The shape of the dress is fine, but a matte fabric would have suited her more.

Lena Dunham in Giambattista Valli
There are so many things wrong with this, and I don't even mean that in a rude way. First of all, someone should have ironed the shirt. The wrinkles just contribute to the mess that is this outfit. Moreover, she has a really beautiful pale complexion, but that really faded icing pink color washes her out. She also should have gone for a lower neckline because the way her hair stops right above her collar makes her head seem like it's sticking out of a hole in the wall. Maybe if someone made these changes to the top, the ruffles wouldn't look so bad...

Lena Headey in Rubin Singer
This just looks so edgy and cool. The pinstripes are so classy and all of the asymmetry is super modern. What really pulls this together, though, is her hair. She's got kind of a lady quiff going on which really contributes to the edginess of her look.

Sarah Hyland in Christian Dior
This is by far my favorite look from the Emmys. I just love how it's a classed up version of an everyday look: top knot, crop top, and maxi skirt. The orange skirt really emphasizes her youth and makes this outfit playful. P.S. I love her and Modern Family, so I may be biased.

Sarah Paulson in Armani Prive
She looks like a beehive from Wonderland. That's really all I have to say about this.

Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta
Honestly, this could have been so much better. Usually, my favorite red carpet looks are from Oscar de la Renta, but this one just isn't impressive. Is it odd that this stood out to me because it wasn't impressive? That just dawned on me, but back to the subject. From the top, this dress just looks like a normal strapless dress--whatever, no big deal, but then you get to the bottom and it kind of just looks like a sack. It doesn't look particularly bad, just not particularly good.

Teyonah Parris in Christian Siriano
This dress is just so vibrant and fun! The colors are really reminiscent of summer, and they flatter her skin tone. I also love how this dress has the huge skirt but still compliments her figure.

All of these pictures are from the New York Daily News website. Follow the link if you want to see more looks from the Emmys red carpet, and let me know which looks stood out to you down below!

Are You Blue?

bandanna: Michael's; shirt: Kohl's; dress: Cotton On;
bag: BCBGeneration; shoes: Cathy Jean (DIY)

This bag is a recent addition to my collection, and I have been loving it so much. The color is just so vibrant and playful that it brightens up every outfit. Even in this blue-centric outfit, the bag manages to be a nice pop of color. I especially like how the minty-turquoise color looks over the daisy print on this dress. It's just so sweet and summery and soothing.

Fashion Magazine WTF's: Vogue June 2014

A couple days ago, I posted the thoughts I had while reading the most recent Teen Vogue. This is going to be the same thing (maybe it'll be a series, who knows?), but all of these are from this year's June Vogue. I know it's an old issue, but I only recently got the chance to read it. I actually have a stack of Vogues (March through June) on my book shelf that I haven't read because they're so thick and intimidating. I digress. Anyway, scroll on!

I bet they told her to act natural. Let me just say that she totally nailed it. That's what I look like when I jog. Just kidding, I don't sports.

Spent life savings on the purse. Has to live in a trunk. But hey, it's a designer trunk.

So calm in the face of danger. Was Cara a girl scout? I guess that's why they pay her the big bucks. Side note, is that an actual bear? They edited that in, right? They had to have. Otherwise, that's very dangerous.

I was very confused with the man who has woman hands at first, but eventually, I understood. Then I turned the page, and the woman completely threw me off.

Electric Shock

top: TJ Maxx; shorts: American Rag;
bag: BCBGeneration; shoes: Nine West

For some reason, whenever I think of "electric blue" I think of this mix between turquoise and mint. However, as Google told me this morning, electric blue is actually just a bright, kind of dark blue. Fun fact for today! Regardless, this minty-turquoise color still makes me think of a bolt of electricity. It also adds a nice vibe to the outfit because it's so bright and energetic. I decided to class it up with the red lip and the heels because it's always a good day to be classy.

Fashion Magazine WTF's: Teen Vogue September 2014

A few nights ago I was flipping through Teen Vogue and started thinking about some of the weird things that are in fashion magazines. I love seeing really cool, out there looks, but sometimes you have to step down from that snobby "I understand fashion" attitude and realize how ridiculous some things are. After all, it is fashion. It's supposed to fun, not taken too seriously. So here's what goes through my mind when I read magazines. Enjoy!

What is this skirt? It look normal at first, but if you look closely, the skirt splits open over the top of her leg. That means that there's a giant slit going all the way up the front of the skirt. What even is that?

Beanie, thick turtle-neck sweaters, scarf, and heavy boots. So what I'm to understand, is that it's cold outside. Ok, ok. WHERE ARE YOUR PANTS?

That can't be comfortable. Maybe that's why she look so upset. Poor Cara.

She's wearing high heels and walking on sand. How is that even possible? Emporio Armani, defying the laws of nature since... you know. I don't know the year, and I'm not going to pretend to.

She's wearing a motorcycle helmet, but there's no motorcycle in the shot. On the chance that that little shadow next to her is the motorcycle, you'd think that Aeropostale would want it in the shot after they paid to rent it. Just saying.

Where did she get that giant piece of kale?

I feel like I no longer know the meaning of subtle. Neither the fur nor the skirt pattern are subtle.

All of these young people hanging out and looking attractive, like "We climbed a rock together, we're so cool and sexy." Then in the crack, this one old guy who's like "I feel good."

That's all for this post! BUT, you can expect a second one because I did the same thing for Vogue June 2014. Let me know if you like this because I'd love to do more!

Sitting Over Flowers

bandanna: ?*; shirt: original by me; dress: Forever 21; shoes: Aldo

Yesterday was one of those days where I stayed home and sat on the Internet for hours on end. Most people prefer to do this in sweats or pajamas, but for some reason I find sitting around in a dress to be pretty comfortable. Especially in the summer, sundresses are just so convenient because they're comfy and casual but still presentable if I need to be in public. Also, I apologize for my dog. Maeby just was not in the mood to cooperate with me. She can be such a bitch sometimes (ayy).

*I have had this bandanna since I was in elementary school.
I used to wear it all the time, but I have no idea where it's from.

On Repeat

top: Love Tree; overalls; thrifted;
bag: free from Teen Vogue; shoes: Aldo

I know I wore this in my last post, but I wanted to show a different way that I styled these overalls because I just love them so much! This time I went for more of a summer-y look with the soft white blouse and the bright sea-foam purse. I really love wearing these because they're so easy and comfortable, but I feel so trendy and cool when I wear them. Even though I really don't want to let go of summer, I keep thinking of ways I can wear this with tights and sweaters for fall and winter. I'm excited for what's to come, but it kind of upsets me when I think so far ahead. Maybe it's just me, but I get stressed out when I think about the future. I guess I've just been fortunate enough to be happy with where I am most of the time, so I get worried about going somewhere else. Regardless, I've just got to hold up my head and embrace whatever comes my way.

Overall Quirk

bow: made by a friend; top: Banana Republic; overalls: thrifted; shoes: LoveD

I had been admiring the overalls trend from afar because I really like the idea of a one piece (rompers, overalls, jumpsuits, etc), and overalls seemed the most casual and, thus, suitable to my wardrobe. When I saw this pair (a pair of overalls? is that right?) at Wasteland, I was very intrigued. The overalls are made of corduroy rather than the typical denim, which I thought was somewhat unique, and the little gray flowers on the bright coral make it very prominent in a crowd. Now the challenge is how to keep myself from looking like a giant five year-old...
